Genetic characteristics of sugar and fruit types by reciprocal crosses of small, sweet muskmelons ¢¥S.R¢¥, ¢¥Sugar¢¥, ¢¥Ase¢¥ and large, less-sweet muskmelon ¢¥Roan¢¥ were investigated. Morphological characteristics of fruits were a little different among parents in placenta width, pericarp thickness, fruit length, fruit diameter, but in the whole, characteristics of F©û hybrids, large fruit were shown to be incompletely dominant. Placenta width, fruit length and fruit diameter in parents showed negative correlation with sucrose content, whereas in F©û¢¥s positive correlations were observed except for placenta width. High content of soluble solids, total sugar and sucrose appeared to be dominant in sweet ¡¿ less-sweet crosses except for in ¢¥Sugar¢¥ ¡¿ ¢¥Roan¢¥ cross. These results suggested that there were possibilities for breeding sweet and large muskmelon strains in warm season.
